                        Florida History

        The state of Florida has an interesting history. This state’s history starts with the Paleo Native Americans. That records back over thousands of years ago to the first settlers to the civil rights movements to NASA’s opening. The statehood of Florida is it became the 27th state of the USA, on March 3 1845.   

First People

         The first Native American were the Paleo people who live in the region of Florida 12,000 years ago. They lived peacefully, without anybody bothering them or getting in their way. Another group of Native Americans were the Pensacola. They lived in the Northern part of Florida and their existence also dates back to 12,000 years ago. One more Native American tribes are the Apalachees, in which dates back to the same period of time of 12,000 years ago. This tribe hunted, fished, and traded a lot.

First Explorers

        The first settlers, who were not the Native Americans were the Spanish. The Spanish explorer was Juan de Ponce de leon. In 1513, the Spanish were looking to find Asia and discovered this region. They explored and settled most of Florida’s shores and beaches. The results were they found nothing except poor Native Americans. These settlers affected the Native Americans by spreading sickness resulting death. Over three hundred years later. Florida became the 27th state of the USA, on March 3 1845.

Florida Space Program

       In the year of 1949, Cape Caravel (NASA) launched missiles. In 1958, the missile program ended. In 1962 launch for space opened; it was named after John F. Kennedy in the year 1963 and NASA was born.

Hurricane Katrina

​Hurricane Katrina: Hurricane Katrina was the 3rd strongest hurricane ever recorded. It was about 20 ft high. Half of the victims in the hurricane was senior citizens. There was about 705 missing people. It was ranked a 5 ranked storm. It affected about 15 million people. Also 80% of new Orleans was underwater. It was about 150 billion dollars of damage done

Civil Rights

      Civil Rights: In the year of 1934, the NAACP needed to improve the black schools so the children will not suffer. The executive secretary of the progressive voters league helps the thousands of black schools in Florida. Ku Klux killed the leader of the league the Moores and his wife too in 1951, but the Moores did not die in vain. This is when the blacks were equal in Florida.

Executive

The Governor of Florida is Rick Scott. He is a Republican and he is the 45th, governor, and he has had a two four year term as governor. The executive branch is hidden by the governor. The people of Florida elect the governor. The executive branch consist of governor, lieutenant governor, cabinet of Florida, agencies and departments.

Legislative

The Legislative branch makes laws. There are 40 members of Florida`s senate. Consist of Florida's house of representatives of 120 members. Also made up of 2 houses of congress

Courts

The courts of Florida consist of Supreme court, 5 District courts of appeal, 20 Circuit, and 67 County courts

The Local Govr

The Local government of Florida consist of the Mayor, 67 counties, municipalities, and special districts. The people of Florida elect the Local government.  

Flag: The flag was approved in 1900. It was last modified May 21st, 1985.The flag was adopted in November 21st, 1900.It has a white background and red stripes shaped as an X. The state seal is centered in the middle of the red X.

​Seal: The seal of florida was adopted in 1865. Florida's seal was turned into a quarter. In 1970, it was approved. The state tree is in the background.  It has a Native American women carrying flowers. There are also some palm trees, a beach, a wooden ship, and the sun beaming down on her in the background.

Conclusion

For hundreds of years, Florida’s history is intriguing. People have always loved Florida.The history started with the Paleo Native Americans that lived around 12,000 years ago. Then we have the history of the Apalachee Native Americans, that fished and hunted. Florida has always been known for the people and the beauty of the beaches and shores. This beauty will always attract tourist to Florida.
