                                                             D.A.R.E

Have you ever heard about how people use drugs? I think it is a stupid choice; how about you?. I don't get why people even use drugs. In D.A.R.E, I learned about the negative effects of tobacco, alcohol, and a few resistance strategies to help me stay away from these substances.

There are many reasons why you should not use tobacco. One reason is that it makes your teeth really yellow and your breath stinks really bad. More than 50,000 Americans die from the drug tobacco each year. There are also 200 or more known harmful chemicals in tobacco( cigars or cigarettes). For these reasons, I will never touch a tobacco product.

There are many negative effects of overusing  alcohol. Each year, 75,000 Americans die from drinking alcohol. Some effects of alcohol are loss of coordination, poor judgement, memory loss, loss of self control, and slow reflections. Alcohol weakens your heart muscle and reduces the amount of the heart pumps blood. Also, mixing Alcohol with medicines and other substances is very dangerous.

In order to stay away from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, there are five resistance strategies. One way you could stay away from drugs is just avoiding the situation. You can also have a strength in numbers or just simply walk away. Saying no or justgiving an excuse and changing the subject are two other effective strategies.

In conclusion, drugs are really bad for our bodies. Through the D.A.R.E. program, I learned about how tobacco affects you, how alcohol affects your body, and the ways to avoid drugs by using resistance strategies. Just think about how bad drugs are for you and please don’t use them. Many people have made those mistakes and died.

I pledge to never use drugs, and never get my friends into drugs, too. I pledge to never use drugs to hurt other people at all times.

Thank you
