The endless beaches, the year-round warm climate, the exotic wildlife, and the largest peninsula, in our nation, brings people from all over the globe to Florida. If someone loves warm winters and outside adventures then Florida would be a good place to live and explore. However, its summers are super hot and humid with a big population.

                             Basic Facts

     Florida is located in the southeastern region of the United States. Georgia and Alabama border the northern edge of Florida. Florida covers 58,976 square miles making it the 22nd biggest state in the United States. There are 18,801,310 people living in the state. Florida is the fourth most populated state. Florida’s state capital is Tallahassee. The state capital is located in the northwestern region of the state with 181,376 residents. Two other major cities are Miami and Tampa. Tampa is located in the northeast area of Florida and Miami is located in the southeast Florida. Tampa has 355,709 residents and Miami has a population of 499,457 people.

                             Climate

          Florida Has Unusual climate. The highest temperature ever recorded in Florida was 109 Degrees fahrenheit. The lowest temperature in Florida was -2 degrees fahrenheit. The average yearly  precipitation is 54 inches. The average in January is 53 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average temperature in July is 82 degrees Fahrenheit.The climate in Florida is damp, really hot, moist, warm, humid, wet, and dry.    

                            Land regions

       Florida’s has three parts to it the Atlantic coastal plain, the East Gulf Coastal plain, and the Florida’s Upland. The Atlantic coastal plain is 48 to 160 km(30 to 100 miles. The Florida Keys is also part of this region; it curves about 150 miles (241 kl).

     In the Atlantic Coastal Plain(The Florida Keys), Key Bargo is the largest island. Water covers most of this land region.It is a low, level, plain. The Atlantic coastal plain is a narrow ribbon of sandbars, coral reefs, and barrier islands. Things that lie between those narrow ribbons are lagoons, rivers, bays, and long shallow lakes.

 

     The East Gulf Coastal Plain has two sections. One section covers southeastern  part of the peninsula.The second part of the region curves around northern edge of the Gulf of Mexico.The region  is long and narrow. Most of the swamp land has been drained. Now it is used for farming.

     

     This land region has the Urban development. Urban development means to make large cities.

The Florida Uplands is shaped like a giant arm; it is also separated into two sections. Many of the lakes in this region were formed by sinkholes. Pine forests grow in the northern section. This region is higher than both Florida’s other land region.

                            Landforms

Florida has lots of landforms here they are .The Highest elevation in Florida is 345 ft. The highest elevation is in Walton County. In Florida there are some lakes. The three largest rivers in Florida are Kissimmee, Suwannee, and St. John's rivers. All the rivers are located  Kissimmee is north of Lake Okeechobee;St. Johns is located in the northeastern part of Florida. It is 275 miles long. St. Johns river is the largest in Florida. Suwanee is also located in the northeastern part of Florida. Suwannee is 190 miles long. Suwannee goes across Florida’s border into Georgia. Kissimmee goes into the Everglades.  Kissimmee is 103 miles long

 

              The largest lake in Florida is lake Okeechobee. It is nine feet deep and covers 700 square miles. Lake Okeechobee is part of the everglades. The ocean that borders Florida is the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The Atlantic ocean is 26 percent of Earth’s ocean water. It has a rich source of seafood; and it has tons of different types of marine life. It is the largest lake in the southern united states. It is a Seminole native american tribe.

 

        The Florida Everglades is a very special feature of Florida.  The everglades is a huge swamp. A massive amount of alligators and other types of animals live there. A large variety of trees  grow in the Everglades such as Bustic, Gumbo Limbo, Line Oak , Mastic, and royal palm trees. The Everglades covers 1,500,000 acres of land.
